What is TRE?

TRE stands for Tension, Stress & Trauma Releasing exercises. 

It’s a process that was developed by Dr David Berceli over 20 years ago after his time as a missionary working in war-torn countries. He’s an international expert in the areas of trauma intervention and conflict resolution. 

TRE is a set of 7 gentle exercises that activates the tremor mechanism that occurs naturally in the body.

If you’ve ever experienced a strong yoga or gym class, you have probably experienced tremors, although in TRE we allow them to happen, rather than fight them. 

Tremoring is a natural process that occurs with both animals and humans. Shivering is our body’s way of warming us up when we’re cold, and a common process that involves tremors.

In the animal kingdom, a gazelle will literally shake after escaping the clutches of a lions jaw, thereby expending the shock and adrenaline that was pumping around its body. By physically shaking off the tension, the body is then able to calm down and return to a homeostatic balance. 

This process helps to alleviate physical aches and pains as well as emotional states such as anxiety. Tremoring helps to calm the nervous system and bring the body back into balance after physical and emotional disturbances. 

But the more able we are to release extra charge held within our bodies, the more able we are at dealing with life, and everything it throws at us.
